Tofino Fishing Charters

Mmmm... salmon!

Where's the best salmon fishing - Tofino or Ucluelet?

Our heart is in Tofino, but there are good salmon to be found in both places. If you're interested in big Spring Salmon, then you'll be served well by Tofino and Ucluelet. If you're looking to go bucktailing (saltwater fly fishing), then you really want to fish out of Tofino's waters.

Do you recommend a fishing charter company?

We've heard good things about most of the fishing charter companies in Tofino. Their prices are all fairly similar, and most of them catch lots of fish. In our opinion, you'll be better off fishing with a guide who has been fishing in Tofino for more a long time and has a professional appeal. It just makes sense!

What kinds of fish can I expect to catch if I hire a fishing charter?

Most of the charter companies are looking for salmon. There are two species of salmon that are commonly caught off of Tofino: Spring Salmon (also called Chinook or King), and Coho Salmon (also called Silver).

If you are fishing deep, offshore waters, you'll be looking for big springs in the neighborhood of 20 to 50 pounds. If you are fishing shallow nearshore waters, you'll mostly be catching Coho salmon from 2 to 15 pounds. You will find the occasional big Spring in nearshore shallow waters, which is very exciting to find with a fly!
