VISITING TOFINO?

Hiking Trails and Information

Get out of your car and breath Tofino's salty air.

There are many hikes of differing lengths and difficulties in the Tofino area, in the Pacific Rim National Park and in and around Ucluelet. Even on shorter hikes in the summer you should be aware that you are in a semi wilderness area and should prepare accordingly. You should always pack clothing in case the weather takes a turn for the worse, waterproofs and fleece layers are the bare minimum even though the trails are quite flat they can be slippery and decent hiking boots should be worn. There are also wild animals to be aware of, mainly bears make sure you take precautions.

Rainforest Walk.

This short walk in the Pacific Rim National Park is in two sections each around 20 mins and is all boardwalk. To the east of the highway the trail winds through huge trees and an abundance of mushrooms can be found here in the fall. The trail to the west of the highway descends to the forest floor taking you through the different levels of the forest from almost in the canopy to the small creek at the bottom of this lovely walk.

Bog Walk

This is another short boardwalk walk of around 20 mins in the national park. The flat boardwalk has no steps and is a very easy stroll across the bog of the Pacific Northwest. See stunted trees, bog flowers and even carnivorous plants. You can pick up an interpretive brochure at the start of the trail.

Schooner Cove Trail

This trail is in the park, it is a bit longer and more challenging trail at 1km each way, from Schooner Cove at the end of the trail at low tide you can walk along Long Beach, Wickaninnish Beach and Florencia Beach to Half Moon Bay this 19km walk takes in some of the most spectacular scenery and beaches that the west coast has to offer.
