Hot Springs CoveOceanside hot springs moving with the rhythm of the tide27 km north west of Tofino in the Maquinna Provincial Marine Park, hotsprings cove has been attracting visitors for thousands of years. On a remote peninsula of Vancouver Island this unique spot requires a boat or plane to access. There are plenty of operators in Tofino who will take you to the hot springs but beware of crowds during peak season. It takes a little over an hour to reach the hot springs by boat and much less by plane. Once there you take a short walk from the dock to the springs themselves. The hot water comes out of the ground and cascades down a waterfall, the water here is very hot. The bottom is rocky and you will definitely want to bring along some footwear to protect your feet in the springs. As you venture down through cascading pools to the ocean the temperature of the water moderates to a pleasant level. The tide comes up and down through the pools so the mixing of the waters occurs in the bottom pool. The therapeutic nature of hotsprings has long been known. Native people have been taking these waters for thousands of years. Relief from arthritis, aches and pains. Or just relief for the cold damp weather the warming healing waters are a natural gift to weary bones. Many different charter companies take trips to the hot springs from Tofino daily. During the winter months your choices are limited, but it is possible to get there via water taxi or with one of Tofino's few charter companies that remain open year round.
